The Chief of Staff is a senior strategic adviser to the CEO, responsible for increasing the CEO’s effectiveness and organisational impact by ensuring focus on GBE’s most important priorities. Acting with delegated authority, the role provides expert challenge and advice on major strategic, commercial, investment and delivery decisions, ensuring proposals are robust and ready for executive decision-making. The postholder works across the organisation to resolve complex issues, drive alignment and delivery, support effective governance, and build strong relationships with government and key stakeholders, while helping the CEO navigate organisational priorities and risks.
This senior leadership role is responsible for shaping and delivering Great British Energy’s Strategic Market Interventions portfolio, identifying where targeted public action can address market failures, unlock private investment and accelerate the deployment of strategically important energy technologies and infrastructure. Leading a multidisciplinary team, the postholder will take interventions from initial market analysis and policy development through business case approval and delivery, working closely with government, industry and delivery partners. The role combines policy leadership, public spending expertise and strong technical credibility, with responsibility for developing programmes such as the Deepwater Wind Commercialisation Programme, advising senior leaders and Ministers, securing government approvals, and ensuring interventions deliver long-term economic, industrial and energy-system benefits for the UK.
This senior leadership role is responsible for leading the delivery and partnership activity that underpins Great British Energy’s strategic market interventions, ensuring approved programmes move effectively from policy and business case approval into implementation. The postholder will oversee the delivery of high-value public funding and financing mechanisms, establish robust assurance and governance frameworks, and build strategic partnerships across government, industry, investors and international stakeholders to unlock investment, technology deployment and supply-chain growth. Acting as a senior adviser to executives, Ministers and government partners, they will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage programme risk and delivery readiness, and play a key role in ensuring that major interventions deliver measurable outcomes and long-term value for the UK’s clean energy sector.
This is an exciting opportunity to join GBE and support its growing external profile through proactive and responsive media relations. Working across a range of press activity, the role will help identify and develop positive media opportunities, support interviews and press releases, respond to journalist enquiries and develop clear external messaging. You’ll play an important part in communicating GBE’s work effectively, while helping to protect and enhance the organisation’s reputation. GBE’s Press Office acts as the hub for media activity and works closely with colleagues across the organisation to identify newsworthy stories and manage external communications.
